In June of 2007, Susan and I spent two weeks camping,
sightseeing and capturing photographs in southern Oregon.
The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is an amazing
natural wonder, filled with miles of sand dunes. Unfortunately
for those who want to enjoy the natural beauty, most
of the dunes are open to off-road vehicles. This makes
it less than enjoyable, and even a little dangerous,
for hiking and photography.
Fortunately,
there is one area of the dunes, in the Eel Creek area,
where motorized vehicles are not allowed. Susan and
I spent a couple hours in the evening hiking around
this windswept area.
This photo features Susan sitting on the dunes, observing them and soaking in their beauty. We were all by ourselves out there, and the only sound was that of the gentle breeze.
In order to create the unique look I "clipped" Susan's image from the photo, converted it to black-and-white, then added in just a little warm orange color, creating the monotone look you see. I then added Susan back into the photo, in full color. Personally, I love the result.
